2 large sweet Spanish onions 1-1/4 cups flour 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 egg, beaten 1 cup beer 1 tablespoon oil Combine flour, baking powder, salt, egg, beer and oil, blend until smooth. Pare onions, slice into rings 3/8 inch thick. Separate rings. Dip onion into batter and coat well. Fry in hot oil heated to 375 degrees. Turn once. When light brown on both sides, remove with slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. While hot sprinkle with salt. Makes about 5 dozen. |
