These tables should be read from top to bottom. We are looking for the interval from the note in the scale at the top of the row to the note in the bottom row (D-C, etc.). The steps are written out inbetween the notes. From D-C there are 4W+2H steps. If you look at the Simple Intervals Chart you will see that the m7 intervals do not exist in those respective keys (such as D-C or G-F) while the M7 intervals do exist in the other keys (such as F-E also a M7). These are all ascending intervals and should not be confused with compound intervals which are greater than one octave. You need at least nine steps for a compound interval. I'm merely rotating a C scale.
